1.Carving

Purpose: This is the most core function. Artists use various shaped carborundum grinding heads (such as pointed needles, round balls, flat rods, etc.) to cut jade materials, carving out the designed patterns, textures and shapes. Whether it is fine incised lines or complex three-dimensional round sculptures, they all need a grinding machine to be completed.

2.Skin Removal & Rough Shaping

3.Grinding & Sanding

Usage: After the carving is completed, rough knife marks will be left on the surface of the work. Grinding involves using sandpaper grinding heads or oilstone grinding heads ranging from coarse to fine (for example, from 180 mesh to 600 mesh) to gradually smooth out these marks, making the surface smooth and preparing for polishing. This is a crucial step that determines the feel of the finished product.

4.Polishing

Purpose: This is the final process, where finer polishing tools (such as cowhide, felt, cloth wheel grinding heads) are used in combination with polishing paste (such as diamond gypsum, cerium oxide paste) to rub the surface of the jade at high speed, creating a warm, bright, and alluring glassy or oily luster, maximizing the display of the jade’s texture and beauty.

5.Drilling

Usage: It is used for making pendants, beads or other jade articles that need to be connected by threading ropes. Specialized jade carving drill bits can be used for precise drilling.

Applicable tool: Fine needle-shaped corundum drill bit.

6.Restoration

Usage: It is used to restore ancient or modern jade articles that have been bumped or damaged. Through methods such as re-carving, grinding and polishing, it aims to restore their original appearance.
